My Nephew David

It is with considerable sadness that I post the following regarding my nephew David Ian Childs.

David died Thursday June 12th, 2008.

I will probably update this post in the future, but for now, we have been given some links to remember him by.

Where did the Subprime Mortgage Crisis come from?

Jerry Bowyer is a former accountant and local talk-show host in Pittsburgh, who now acts as an economic advisor to a financial investment advisory firm.  He appears regularly on MSNBC and other media outlets.

The Main Stream Media has suggested that it's a LACK of regulation or oversight.

Jerry's argument makes intuitive sense to me and seems logical.  It may be some time before a couple of economists are able to get a hold of the relevant data to back up what seems to be to be a plausible theory.

Jerry uses it to take a swipe at Obama at the end and in a follow-up commentary.

BTW, The one area where I disagree most with Jerry is his expectation for inflation.  He doesn't see it as a problem, and so far in most of the data he is correct.  But food and fuel have already kicked up substantially and I expect that these increases will push through to other parts of the economy in the current year.

Wag the Blog

I was astonished yesterday to read the following article from the author of Glengarry Glen Ross and Wag the Dog:

Did he consult with Ron Silver before he wrote this?

I always call it National Proletariat Radio, but who's counting?

Latest Articles of Interest

I thought I would list a few interesting articles I've read in the past week.

It's part commentary, part opinion.

If you've read any recent books or videos or links, you can post them here as well.

He Drew First Blog!

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for checking out the new blog site.

When I mentioned that it might be a good idea to set up a LISTSERV, one person thought it was a good idea...one other person thought it was geeky.

It turns out that it's way more geeky than even I thought it was, and more importantly requires access to server rights that I don't currently have.

Anyway, I found a "free" way to accomplish something similar.  It's a blog.

Yes, it's on a conservative opinion website.  To be able to post and comment, you will have to register as a user, but I think it's easy enough to limit or eliminate the spam from this website.

If you would like, just send me an email and then you can be put on as an author for this blog.  That way everyone can come here to post whatever stuff they want followed by comments that everyone can check out.  We won't constantly be filling up email inboxes.

Now that I have named this one for me, it occurs to me that I could have named it "SSA friends" or "SSA chums" (per William), but it looks like it's pretty easy to set up a new one as needed.  No huge deal, but I thought I'd get feedback on it first after we all try it out and learn.

Let me know what you think, after all, that's what a blog is for.
